Average, kind of bland, mid tempo, mildly aggresive punk with Brit-accented vocalist. Three of their own songs plus a cover of a British band called Intensive Care. There's an anti-TV song but the anti-religion "Halo Protector" is pretty alright - it's got this funny little part that says "Ah piss on your religion". Not too exciting but ok. Needs a little more "umph" to make me happy. Maximum Rockandroll Not enough raving has been done about this 4-track anarcho masterpiece. Hot on the heels of their debut LP comes this little jaw-dropper from BBP records. Noodles strains out the anti-establishment rage with pure punk venom - Bug Central follow on and far overtake where Anthrax (the Crass band) and Admit You're Shit began. This black-flagged nugget does the trick, it really does make you wanna get involved. Ruptured Ambitions Bug Central play great political brit punk in the vein of Crass, Flux Of Pink Indians and a bunch of other great bands. You know the sound...fast, energetic, intelligent and pissed! Eat Shit Zine Really good anarcho punk with a strong 80s influence and good sneering vocals. The title track is probably the best thing they've done. Great cover with a photo of a cop car with "cops suck arse" sprayed on the bonnet! overall this is dead good and i also recommend you track down their album "The Meek Will Inherit Nothing" because that is bloody fine too. Cargo Cult zine Bug Central have put a lot more work into this release by the look of things. The cover is much better than the LP's and whereas the LP tracks were all played at pretty much the same pace, the title track here is a storming, almost anthemic, slower number that some of the 80s anarcho bands would be proud of. Good anarcho punk and as i've said before, as close to the Subhumans as i've heard, and that's gotta be some sort of compliment. Bald Cactus zine More from the angriest band in the land. The songs on this are a touch slower but they more than make up for speed with power! I'm glad they have used a slightly different approach on this set coz it's makes em more diverse. So don't worry kids, the rage and venom is still here with bucket loads to spare. Bug Central are one of the few bands today who can write a page full of lyrics that don't bore the arse off ya. It takes yer back to the good old days of Crass and Mr Ignorants saliver soaked verbalisations. They get off the blocks with the anti-capitalist 'Money & Riots (That's L.I.F.F.E)' with it's "From the wino's down at Old Street tube, whose streets are paved with cold concrete, To the homeless beggar that plagues your world, who's the shit beneath your well heeled shoe!" Followed by 'Smart Bombs For The Nation' which takes a sneering view at the cathode grey tube culture. They do a great version of Intensive Care's 'Bank Job', plus an up-dated version of the heretical 'Halo Protector' from their "Spittin In Your Wishing Well" demo. Great production as well, which shows the punks are learning from their surroundings. Nihilism On The Prowl website
The Meek Will Inherit Nothing album English punk fucking rock. Great lyrics with sing along choruses. Most of the songs are about conformity and alienation. Fast guitars and hard drumming back up great snotty vocals. Note; it doesn't sound stupid when English singers sing with English accents, but it does when American singers do. This is the band the Sex Pistols should've been - Maximumrocknroll (#198 Nov 99) Imagine venomous, snotty type vox with plenty of corking punk rock tunes in the style of late 70's and early 80's punk. Worth yer cash, that's for sure. - Toxic Stress #11 from Ade, 6 Peartree Sreet, Derby, DE23 8PP, UK London heretics and general angry bastards Bug Central's debut album has been causing a great deal of interest, particularly amongst our overseas punk community...and rightly so cos it's a great blast of personified gob ridden punk anger that scales all corners of punk - Spunk newsletter, The Wolf's Lair, 11 Cromwell Rd, Wolverhampton, WV10 8AA, UK UK punk played with a clean guitar style and fairly rockin' beat. Their style reminds me of the older '77 ish sound - clean and rockin' and in this case very british. Mid tempo for the most part with occassional more kickin speed parts. A good listen for sure - they're tight and good old punk rock - Slug & Lettuce #62 If it wasn't for the band's e-mail address, website and a mention of the home shopping channel in the song "Sick (Again)" I would have wondered if this is a re-issue. From the music, lyrics and cover art these guys have a definite early 80's English punk sound. Tuneful and driving at the same time. The varying tempos add character, topped off with the classic punk guitar sound - Flipside #121 When i saw Helen Of Oi on the back of the cover i thought "oh no, apolitical Oi" But it's nice to be proven wrong. They do play UK '82 punk with a touch of Motorhead thrown in for good measure and it's all done in the best possible taste. The lyrics are really good with some anti-fascist, anti nuclear family dreams and stacks more observations on daily life. A good LP, with some crap artwork on the front cover - but hey, it's punky looking isn't it? - Fracture #9 Anarcho punk incorporated! Well that's the impression that most reviewers seem to spout off about this band. But I must admit that tag doesn't do Bug Central justice. Yeah they're raw, yeah they're angry and they bombard us with a wide range of systematic failings. But what I get from hearing these rabid, raucious Londoners is something a little bit more than yer average Anarcho combo of today has to offer! And that something is suss! By reading the lyrics y'know, that they know the score all too well. And they don't just pack a punch to go with their angry pissed off demeanour. They've got some blitzing tunes to send their bomb on it's way! This debut kicks off in fine style with the 'Queens English' and the trademark buzzsaw guitars, driving bass and pounding drums propel us through their 11-song rampage. As I said this ain't your usual run of the mill rant 'n' rave fair here. Oh no...they have some great sarcastic lyrics that not only spell out the trials and tribulations this life has for us. But it's conveyed in a strangulated take no prisoners kinda way. their clever use of soundbites to introduce some of the tracks were well picked. And yeah not one guitar solo in the whole album!!! Comes with a great production, nothing tinny or transistorized on ere! Plus some great artwork Nihilism On The Prowl I have to admit to being slightly disappointed when i first got this, only cos i'd heard all but one track before. If you haven't got the demos (Spittin' In Your Wishing Well) I'd definitely track this down though, especially if you like your punk rock snotty, angry, and with tunes as close to the Subhumans as is possible. Oh fuck it, even if you have the demos get this cos it is all re-recorded and on vinyl only (a rarity these days), and there are 4 non-demo tracks. To sum it up: snotty, cockney vocals and punk rock tunes - Bald Cactus #17 Musically this is great, at the very least, good. I dig the melodies and the overall energy. We need more of this, next to CLIT 45 we've got none to equal it. But i think the lyrics are true to someone's life, just not mine, so i have to question their validity. Otherwise a cool piece of wax that has 80's british punk written all over it - Hit List Vol 1 / #5 Looking at the package I expected a lot of noise but was pleasantly surprised. The vocals come somewhere between Conflict and Subhumans and a lot of the guitar work sounds like the Subs. There are eleven good tracks on this well put together album, my favourite being 'Sick (Again)'. If you like early 80's style Anarcho-punk , you'll not go far wrong here. - Punk & Oi In The UK website.
Spittin' In Your Wishing Well cassette Bug Central will not let you down in the punk rock factor. 10 trax of blistering punx picnic style punk - ageless, cider-fuelled, soapy, spikey, studdy and the kinda noise that wouldn't take 2 minutes to get you leaping about. You can just picture the guitars slung about their ankles, a collapsing mic stand, all surrounded by happy, friendly, smiling unified chaos. Early GBH gobbing all over the DRONES at an EPILEPTICS gig. Infectious energy which kicks you inna da testes. Angry anti-establishment lyrics plastered all over on a tape you'll be wearing out in no time - Ruptured Ambitions, Old Forge Cottage, Rushford Lamerton, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8RY, England Bug Central's music is definitely the fucking best i've heard in a while. Straight up PUNK. No other clique classifications need be used. It's not hardcore punk, it's not Oi, it's not pop-punk, it's not street punk, just PUNK - Aborted Society, c/o Rob II, 1134 17th Ave. #202, Seattle, WA 98122, USA (visit the website) For anyone who likes their punk to be hard hitting, political and of a Conflict nature. - Fracture #6 Bug Central are a force to be reckoned with. This 10-trackers has all the hallmarks of becoming something fresh, a new hope in the desperate UK punk scene! Yep it's that good! Bug Central don't let up on this session. And sure know how to stick the boot in! Their victims Church, Crown and State are bought to rights, with some good, intelligent lyrics. Lyrics that are rammed home in a particular antagonistic way, via a well pissed-off singer/guitarist And like most 3-pieces they're tight, fast and more to the point enraged! Yeah the songs are blasted out and spat at us with a healthy hunger, that suits this type of protest punk down to the ground. This is bad tempered, accessible rage! And any punk worth his salt should get off on it. And you know what?...it ain't thrust down out throats in a whiney "oh woe is me!" kinda way either. Oh no, these fuckers jump right down your throat after it, and ain't content till their quary lies battered and screaming! "Punk Is Dead...long live Punk!" - Nihilism On The Prowl website
